I believe that parenting is all about trust. If you trust your child to do the right thing, then you will have a better relationship with your child. So at an early age, you have to teach them about the right thing to do so you can trust them later in life. Children should be exposed to real world problems in the right ways, so they know what to do if they are ever in that situation. I don't think that kids should be exposed through media, or other children because then the parent isn't going to be there to explain it. Also, the media is often times exaggerated or false. You don't want your children to handle a situation the same way Spongebob does. I agree with Atticus Finch in that you shouldn't beat around the beat around the bush when you child asks you a serious question. If they find out you lied to them, rather than just exposing them to the real world, they will not trust you. Someday, I would like to be a friend to my children yet still an authoritative figure. I want my kids to know that I am with them and not against them. I will expect my children to put their all into everything and anything they do, even if their all is C's. At a young age I will introduce responsibility to my children through a pet. This will show them how to care for something. Also, I want them to have the freedom of choosing their own friends and activities. I want my kids to e able to make their own decisions and mistakes so that they can learn from them rather than me telling them. In conclusion I would like to be a approachable parent yet still enforce rules.
